The Elizabeth neighborhood in Charlotte is named for a small Lutheran woman’s college founded in 1897 on the present-day site of Presbyterian Hospital. When the trolley line was completed in 1902, the neighborhood began to develop rapidly and with the installation of Independence Park, Elizabeth was one of the most-desired residential areas in its early days.
